Remember the Lutron motorized wireless shades I wrote about in the previous HT blog post? Well that was just the beginning: Check out the RadioRA 2 wireless whole house lighting system featured in Home Theater Magazine this month. What's the big deal, you may ask? Only that the RadioRA 2 system doesn't require any new wiring, so just about any home can be easily retrofited: All that's needed is access to your home's current AC power. Using a proprietary wireless RF technology Lutron calls ClearConnect, the RadioRA 2 system offers lighting control for up to 100 lighting devices, or up to 200 with an additional Main Repeater unit. Options abound for zone lighting and dimming, preset schemes (such as away and vacation modes), and occupancy sensors, and you can even control multiple lighting zones from one keypad/controller. What's more, because this lighting control system allows you to activate only as much lighting as you need/when you need it, using this system will actually save energy and lengthen the lifespan of your bulbs over time. And of course, the RA2 can be used with control apps for both Apple and Android devices, and it even features open integration protocols for use with virtually any device capable of sending and/or receiving RS232 or IP commands to control lights and shades. Yowzers. For all the deets, check out Lutron's informative website here, or Home Theater Mag's review here.
